Waternet is a dutch public water supply company dealing with water supply, sewerage and water management
The pilot plant of Waternet is a crucial part of the company’s operation. This is the place where the experiments take place to continuously optimize the quality of the drinking water. Usually these systems are temporarily and built in a relatively simple cost effective way. For this reason, Teesing advised PVDF couplings.
The advantages of PVDF are: cheaper than steel, easy to change the setup and reusable. This particular pilot plant used an ozone system that worked so well that it is now converted into a permanent set up.
How does it work?
From the manifold, piping goes to the reaction columns. In the columns the final reaction with the water takes place. Because of its excellent disinfection and oxidation qualities, ozone is widely used for the treatment of drinking water.
Ozone can be used at various points throughout the whole water system, such as preoxidation, intermediate oxidation or final disinfection. It is recommended to use ozone for a sand or activated carbon filter (oxidation). These filters can after the use of ozone or biological degradation remove the remaining organic compounds, which is of importance for the final disinfection.
